Will ONO emerge as Facebook with a conscience?

Source: Will ONO emerge as Facebook with a conscience?

Social media has been a cut-throat business in recent times but, writes Dr Samuel Douglas, at least one newcomer is aiming to take a surprisingly ethical approach.

THE SAGA of Facebook’s collusion with Cambridge Analytica is yet to run its course, and stories of fake news and arbitrary censorship are still fresh in people’s minds.

So, as yet another report emerges of a leak of private user data, it can be hard to feel that Mark Zuckerberg has either the inclination or capability to act in the best interests of those on his network.

In response to these problems and powered by emerging blockchain projects, a swathe of decentralised applications (DApps) are seeking to give people an alternative to the centralised and somewhat hegemonic approach of the Facebook/government complex.

A project that has recently started to capture wider attention is the ONO social network, which has launched in China and is set for international release in June.

ONO has some features familiar to those following the new wave of social media DApps vying to become the next big thing. It’s open-source, will run on a blockchain (in this case EOS) rather than centralised servers and seeks to incentivise user behaviour through the reward of a tradeable cryptocurrency token — ONOT.

What really sets this project apart for me, even before its full launch, is the detail and thought with which ONO’s white paper sets out a vision of how to protect the rights and well-being of its users.

The core of this ethical framework is the Common Program. Containing no vague appeals to “caring” or “responsibility to shareholders”, this is more a declaration of rights than a corporate code of conduct. The values it describes include user rights to equality, freedom of expression and religion, privacy, property, freedom from discrimination and the right to participate in the governance and decision-making processes of the network.

Structurally, the ONO white paper describes a more organic approach to governance. The idea is that the network will function as a decentralised autonomous corporation (DAC). Interestingly, the justification claimed for such a structure is in the philosophy of Lao Tzu’s Tao Te Ching. Chapter 80 of the Tao, which is cited at the start the description of ONO’s structure, is densely packed with ideas, laying out a vision of society where people are well-cared for, tolerant but firm, happy and conspicuously free from government interference in their everyday lives. The core concepts of simplicity and to not “sweat the small stuff” have been interpreted in the past to apply as much to society as individual lives, in the form of “governing lightly”.

It’s this aspect that seems to drive the rationale of the ONO DAC. Fundamental rights are to be protected from the top down, but communities and individuals can also make their own decisions at a grassroots level.

One of the organisational features of how the network will protect users is the “Super Partner” position. Super Partners are not employees of ONO, though they will be compensated in ONOT for their work. The role of this position, of which there are 51 worldwide, will be to “collapse” harmful content such as fake news, hate speech, spam and so on from view on the blockchain, as well as help run the democratic processes deciding everything from ONOT allocation for community projects to dispute resolution.

These Super Partner positions will be democratically elected. Any member can nominate and, importantly, the voting is not weighted by a financial stake in the network. Moreover, if they fail their duties to the extent that they lose the support of voters over a sufficient period, they can lose their position altogether.

Ke Xu, the young entrepreneur behind ONO, has stated that she is motivated to create a network that connects “the world together in a democratic, open and decentralised way” and that she will never sell either the network or the data of its users.

The founder seems to have good intentions and, in my experience, few corporate codes of conduct are as strongly worded as the ONO Common Program. But moral action and avoidance of the disasters and market failures that flow from negligence or outright malevolence take more than just fine words.

A concern of mine is around how the initial 75 billion ONOT are to be distributed and what could happen if a minority of users amass a large amount with the intention of using this to manipulate content rewards or otherwise dominate the network. Armed with this slightly vague question, I quizzed ONO’s Head of International Operations, Leah Stephens, via telegram, on how this possibility would be dealt with. Her response was that the same rules applied to everyone, that Super Partners would deal with abuse regardless of the wealth of the abuser, and that conflicts could be resolved via voting in referendums. She was particularly adamant that money “does not equal power on ONO”.

Nonetheless, the real tests will be how the Super Partner system works to moderate content and how the user experience plays out once ONO begins to gain popularity. We shouldn’t have long to wait for a result though, with the Chinese test version having over 200,000 users and the project’s roadmap aiming for a million users worldwide by the end of 2018. I am keen to see how the dilemmas of conflicting rights are solved by these individuals, as well as the grand experiment of being commercially successful without resorting to unethical behaviour.

Obviously, even a million users make ONO a long way from being a Facebook-killer in the short-term. But people seem ready for an alternative to existing social-media and it’s fair to say that DApps like Steemit have not delivered the decentralised content-reward experience that some users would like. Considering this, thinking that nothing like ONO can challenge the status quo strikes me as seriously premature. Remember, some people thought Myspace had an unassailable hold on the market.

It might seem like we are a long way from the action here in Australia but, in at least two ways, this is untrue. There is an Australian Super Partner candidate, Melbourne ex pat and database security specialist, Adam Waring. If confirmed, he’ll be one of the 51 ONO members carrying the serious responsibility of protecting the network from malicious activities, as well as facilitating its democratic processes. Furthermore, the organisation with overall legal responsibility for ONO, the NOME Foundation, will be based in Australia. So, whether it takes the world by storm, is a well-intentioned failure, or is just one step in an evolution towards a less destructive social-media landscape, Australians will have a front-row seat to watch the drama play out.

Bangkok, Football World Cup Opening 2010

https://www.ono.chat/ono/article/?id=5b63af05af244f1890ee6470df690321

Bangkok, Khao San Road

it was the year 2010, Thailand celebrated the Opening for the Football World Cup 2010 at Khao San Road.

Khao San Road is a world famous road in Bkk where all the backpackers start when they come to Thailand. They book their tours around Thailand here.

One can sit in a restaurant and only watch the street life, the best movie ever.

One can see people from so many different nations like nowhere else in the world, I think.

At the opening party one could see the happiness of the Thai people and their love for football.

It was such a happy and peaceful event, just unforgettable, the moments in life what life make worthy.

Elephants, painted with the flags of the different nations, people from all parts in the world around….

WHAT A PARTY!

For the safety there was a lot of police and ambulance, but they had really not much work and they enjoyed the party, too…

Unforgettable moments…

I think even the elephants could feel they are a part of an amazing event.

This is Thailand!

Also called the Kingdom of Elephants…

I hope you enjoyed the pics of the Opening Party.

All pictures are 100% original, taken with a Sony HD handycam.

Thank you for walking with me around Khao San Road, Bangkok

City of Angels

Best regards and a wonderful day

Erawan National Park, Thailand

Erawan National Park, Kanchanaburi

Hello dear ONO users,

these pictures I shot on my trip through the Erawan National Park in Kanchanaburi, Thailand.

Kanchanaburi is located in the middle west of Thailand, famous because of the well known River Kwai bridge of the same named Hollywood movie.

The Erawan National Park is located about 80km north west of Kanchanaburi.

From the visitor centre you can take a walk to the 6 step Erawan Waterfall, at the beginning it’s quite easy to walk, then it start to be a little more stressful, hehehe

The nature around the falls is just amazing, one can see some monkeys, too, but one have to be careful, they are not so kind as they look.

some platforms on the way up are for relax and to enjoy the wonderful view..

and here we are, crystal clear water, fishes, like you step into another world…

just enjoy the pictures…..

Thanks for walking with me around the Erawan Waterfalls…

Have a wonderful day and best regards

Breast milk was yesterday: How US delegates tried to prevent a WHO resolution – A translated article — Steemit

Hello dear Steemians and Truthfighters, I just read a German article of RT what took my breath away in the first… by zanoni

Source: Breast milk was yesterday: How US delegates tried to prevent a WHO resolution – A translated article — Steemit

Breast milk was yesterday: How US delegates tried to prevent a WHO resolution

Breast milk is considered to be especially healthy for new earthlings. Hundreds of delegates to the UN World Health Organization also shared this view. Not so, the angry US delegates. After all, alternative products are a multi-billion dollar business.

Even common sense suggests that breast milk is a special elixir that provides newborns with all the essential nutrients and thus provides an optimal start in life. However, in the past few decades, one investigation has gone one step further to scientifically substantiate this supposedly simple fact.

In the spring, a meeting of the UN World Health Assembly was now about integrating the relevant findings into a resolution. Thus, the health-promoting content of breastmilk is irreplaceable and Member States should therefore take measures to “limit” misleading campaigns for substitute products. But hundreds of delegates made the bill without the US ambassadors.

To the astonishment of the assembled international community, the US officials resisted the supposedly consensual resolution and tried to dilute for them to far-reaching passages of the resolution text. For example, Washington’s embassadors were bothered by governments being called to “protect, nurture and support breastfeeding.” Another passage that called for “restricting the promotion of food products, many of which experts say may have adverse effects on young children,” tasted the US delegate as well.

But the change request was rejected, and let the US ambassadors take special measures to give their request the necessary emphasis. As the New York Times reports, citing diplomats and government officials present, it was time to open the economic toolbox and tighten the thumbscrews. It was one of the first to hit the small South American state of Ecuador. Quito had assumed to accept the resolution.

“Bluntly” the South Americans were threatened with “unleashing economic punitive measures and withdrawing substantial military aid.” Ecuador promptly bowed to the US dictate.

Fearing US retaliation, more than a dozen participants in the UN conference who reproduced the questionable process asked for anonymity. According to their accounts, poor African and Latin American states were targeted by similar measures to drive a wedge between the delegates.

“We were stunned, horrified and deeply sad,” said the director of the British advocacy Baby Milk Action Patti Rundall, the general mood again.

What was going on was synonymous with blackmail. The US took the world hostage and tried to overturn nearly 40 years of consensus on the best way to improve the health of infants and toddlers, “Rundall said.

That the US delegates ultimately failed, the New York Times back to the following circumstance:

> "In the end, the US efforts were largely unsuccessful. It was the Russians who came out in the end to implement the measure [Resolution] - and the US did not threaten them. "

The US Department of State therefore declined to comment on the events. The Department of Health and Human Services, the lead agency in an effort to amend the resolution, sought to explain the decision to challenge the text of the resolution. However, the threats to Ecuador were not involved. Especially the interests of mothers were therefore in mind.

The original resolution included unnecessary obstacles for mothers, with the desire to feed their children. For various reasons, not all women are able to breastfeed. These women should have the choice and access to alternatives for their babies’ health and should not be stigmatized for the way they are able to do so, “a spokesperson endeavored to explain the US position.

However, even though lobbyists from the baby food industry attended the meeting in Geneva, there was no evidence that they played a role in Washington’s “strong arm tactics”.

The $ 70 billion [baby food] industry, dominated by a handful of American and European companies, has seen a decline in sales in affluent countries over the last few years as more and more women opt for breastfeeding, "says author Andrew Jacobs the connections.

Nonetheless, global industry sales should increase by 4 percent in 2018. This would be mainly due to growth in the developing countries, is deeply concerned by the general US behavior:

It makes everyone very nervous because if you can not [even] agree on health multilateralism then what multilateralism? "

According to a Russian delegate, the adoption of the Breast Milk Resolution was a matter of principle:

> We're not trying to be heroes here, but we think it's wrong for a big country to try to push around very small countries, especially on a topic that is really important to the rest of the world. "

According to the anonymous delegate, the United States refrains from directly pressurizing Moscow to refrain from the resolution. But the US delegation had tried to “cripple” the other participants through procedural maneuvers in a series of sessions that lasted for an unusually long period of two days.

In the end without success. The final resolution retained most of the original wording. However, the US negotiators were able to remove from the paper the wording that called for the “technical support of WHO member states for suggesting the inappropriate promotion of food for infants and toddlers”.

Here is the link to the original article in German:
https://deutsch.rt.com/international/72678-muttermilch-war-gestern-wie-us/

The background is very easy:

The more and longer the mothers feed their children with breast milk, the more they lose profit.

I would really like to hear a statement of the Qanon movement to this fact.

Best regards and I’m curious about your comments, too.
Have a wonderful day

A Token Piggy Bank (Wallet) for our Children? Sunday morning, wake up, drink coffee, check mails, Steemit… by zanoni

Source: 💥 Pigzbe – A digital Children Wallet – Piggy Bank for Tokens – My Alarm Clock is Ringing 💥 — Steemit

💥After I saw the entry to their website, screenshot above, my inner alarm clock started ringing, it was a very loud ring!💥

About what pigzbe is, we don’t have to talk much, it’s a token wallet for kids (they offer a wallet for adults, too)

But!

What we have to talk about is :

Do we really want our children invest their pocket money in tokens?

In a high volatile, risky cryptocurrency?

With no security for the value?

The more I think about it, the more I get shocked…..

Will this be our new Cryptocurrency World? For me, this sounds much more like a project of the so called:

NEW WORLD ORDER

It reminds me very strong on a project of the freemasons in the US what I read some years ago, the Freemason Chip Programm for children:
